Torbay Whitewash at the Templer Ten Sunday 2nd November 2008 Report by Wendy Urban

The Templer Ten is a multi terrain race, starting and finishing at the Passage House Hotel at Kingsteigton, that consists of approx 4 miles of road and just under 6 miles of muddy fields, slippery woodland tracks, stony lanes and narrow riverside paths. Consequently the sort of race that hardy Torbay AAC athletes enjoy. 250 runners from all over the southwest took part competing against varying athletics clubs from as far apart as East Cornwall and Launceston to the London Club the Thames Hare and Hounds (incidentally the winning mans club).
Therefore this year one of the largest contingent of Torbay runners took part and made sure they secured both the Mens and Ladies teams beating off a concerted effort from Clevedon Athletic club. The mens team consisted of the total time of the first 6 men home and the ladies needed the total time of the first four ladies home. With the men having 5 of their team members within the first 10 finishers and the 6th member Jason putting in a strong performance to secure his 16th position overall their win was never in doubt! The ladies result was a bit tighter with Clevedon managing to squeeze their four ladies between Torbays third and fourth place ladies, but this result was also not as close as it may have been as Helens winning time meant the overall time was easily in Torbays favour.
Lee Turner was 2nd man home with Pete Monaghon and Dave Severn having their own personal battle to finish a couple of minutes behind him in 4th and 5th positions.
Helen Dyke easily won the ladies race in impressive style by finishing in overall 13th position, with Wendy Urban coming in as second lady albeit nearly 4 minutes later!
So as well as a) winning both team prizes b) taking first and second in the ladies race and c) coming 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th in the mens race. Torbay also managed to win more than their fair share of the age category awards with
